Rony Jason Suspended 30 Days for Wall Punch in Addition to 180-Day Medical Suspension
Not only did Rony Jason lose his fight at UFC Fight Night 32 on Saturday in Brazil, he has also landed on the sidelines well into 2014.
After being knocked out by Jeremy Stephens, Jason received a 180-day medical suspension from the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA). But it was his actions after the fight that landed him in further hot water.
Jason reportedly had a difficult time dealing with the loss and lost his temper backstage, putting his fist through a wall and slicing it open the back of his arm in the process.
CABMMA on Tuesday tacked on another 30-day disciplinary suspension for Jason’s actions. The 30-day suspension is to be served following the conclusion of his medical suspension, putting him out of action for up to seven months.
“Due to his anti-sportsmanship conduct in the locker room area, after his bout at the event ‘UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs Henderson’ held on November 9th, 2013, at the city of Goiania (GO), we communicate the suspension of the athlete Rony ‘Jason’ Mariano for a period of 30 (thirty) days, counted as from the end of the period of his medical suspension,” read a statement from CABMMA to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday.
The night of the fights, UFC president Dana White hadn’t made Jason’s post-fight reaction much of an issue, although he did explain what happened.
“He punched his arm through the wall, and sliced the back of his arm wide open. So he had to go get stitches. I don’t know how deep it is or how serious it is,” White said, not overly surprised by Jason’s reaction.
“Listen, this stuff happens, man. Especially young guys with a big loss like that – a devastating loss like that. You know, you do stupid stuff sometimes. I don’t think he was expecting to slice his arm open and get hurt, but stuff happens.”
The knockout loss coupled with Jason’s reaction, however, will keep him out of the Octagon until at least June of 2014.
