Ronda Rousey: I'll Retire When I Feel Like My Mark Has Been Made and I'm Ready to Make Babies

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey sent shockwaves and perhaps panic through the mixed martial arts community with recent comments, saying she may only have two years left in fighting.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Bronze Medalist in judo transitioned to mixed martial arts in August 2010 with her first amateur fight and made her professional debut in March 2011.  In her fifth pro fight, Rousey captured the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight title by defeating then-champion Miesha Tate.

“I do four-year cycles. I think I've got two years left in me, realistically, if I'm going to do this like an Olympic run,” Rousey recently told MMAJunkie.com.

Rousey (7-0) became the first female champion in UFC history and defended that title for the first time at UFC 157 with a submission win over Liz Carmouche in the first female fight in the organization’s history.  She has won all of her fights by arm bar.

Fans took to Twitter in reaction to her comments, urging Rousey to extend her mixed martial arts expiration date.

Rousey responded and didn’t back off her original comments.

“I'll retire when I feel like my mark has been made and I’m ready to make babies,” Rousey tweeted on Saturday.

Rousey recently finished filming the The Ultimate Fighter 18 opposite rival Miesha Tate.  The two are expected to rematch later this year.  She’ll begin filming her scenes for the motion picture The Expendables 3 soon and then her scenes in The Fast and the Furious 7, all before the fight with Tate.

She's busy making her mark.

“I'd say two more years, so I've got two more years to get the ball rolling without me,” Rousey told MMAJunkie.  ”‘TUF' was the first step. It's not the last one, but the work's getting done.”

That's not to say that two years is a deadline. Far from it. In Rousey's mind, it was an estimate.

“My best guess was 2-3 years but thats a guess, who knows, the day Im not overjoyed2go2the gym is the day I quit,” she continued on Twitter. “Could be tomorrow or in 7years.”
