The SportsXchange

The New York Yankees acquired infielder Reid Brignac from the Colorado Rockies for cash on Saturday, according to CBS Sports.

The Rockies designated Brignac for assignment on Thursday. They received $75,000 from the Yankees in exchange.

Brignac, 27, can play second base, third base and shortstop. He batted .250 with one home run and six RBI in 53 plate appearances for Colorado.

He previously spent five years with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees designated infielder Alberto Gonzalez for assignment to make room for Brignac. Gonzalez is a combined 8-for-32 this season with the Chicago Cubs and Yankees.
