Rockies' Betancourt goes on DL

A strained right groin landed Colorado Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.

Betancourt, 38, has not pitched since Friday night when he gave up two runs in one inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The move to the DL is retroactive to Saturday.

The veteran right-hander is 1-3 with with 11 saves and a 3.20 ERA in 22 games this season. He has one blown save.

Rex Brothers will serve as the Rockies' closer until Betancourt returns.

The Rockies' website reported that the team was planning to call up Manny Corpas, a closer on the Rockies' 2007 World Series team, to fill Betancourt's roster spot. Corpas is 2-3 with a 5.19 ERA in 17 games this season for Triple-A Colorado Springs.
