Rockies Allow Marlins to Sneak By 4-3

Justin Morneau had three hits to earn a game grade of 95.0 (A) but the Rockies were downed by Miami, 4-3.

The Marlins got on the board in the bottom of the second when a double by Jarrod Saltalamacchia off starter Brett Anderson brought home Garrett Jones. Later that same inning, Saltalamacchia reached home after a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Marlins grabbed the lead for good when Reed Johnson scored on a fielder's choice. Soon after, Casey McGehee delivered a single, scoring Giancarlo Stanton to make it 4-2.

Anderson lasted six innings and slipped to 0-1 on the season after he gave up three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Nathan Eovaldi (1-0) got the win, going six innings and allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Morneau gave a standout performance at the plate for the Rockies, going 3 for 4. Carlos Gonzalez also had a good game, going 1 for 3 with a double, a run, an RBI, and a walk. Saltalamacchia was 1 for 3 with a double, a run, and an RBI in the win.

The Rockies will face off against the Marlins again Wednesday at Marlins Park at 7:10 PM EDT.
