Rockies 9, Padres 5

SAN DIEGO -- Wilin Rosario and Michael Cuddyer each homered as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres 9-5 before an announced crowd of 29,523 on Saturday night at Petco Park.

Rosario had his first four-hit game for the Rockies, who had 14 hits overall.

Jhoulys Chacin (2-0) gave up two runs and four hits in five innings for the victory. He struck out three and walked two while throwing 83 pitches.

For Padres pitcher Edison Volquez (0-3), it was another rough outing. Volquez was tagged for seven runs, six of them earned, and gave up six hits in 3 1/3 innings, laboring through 96 pitches. He was booed when he was lifted for reliever Thad Weber with one out in the fourth.

The loss was the fourth in a row and the seventh in the past eight games for the Padres (2-9). Colorado (7-4) has won its past two.

Troy Tulowitzki's two-out double to left scored Josh Rutledge for a 1-0 Colorado lead in the first.

The Padres tied it in the bottom of the inning when Everth Cabrera, who led off with a triple, scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Yonder Alonso with two out.

In the second, Rosario smacked a two-run homer into the second deck in left field for a 3-1 Colorado lead.

The Rockies added two runs in the third. Todd Helton's RBI double to left, scoring Carlos Gonzalez, and Rosario's single to left center, scoring Helton, gave Colorado a 5-1 advantage.

Cabrera's RBI single in the third scored Will Venable to cut the lead to 5-2, but Cabrera was thrown out trying to steal third to end the inning.

Gonzalez chased Volquez with an RBI double to left before Cuddyer unloaded on Weber for a two-run bomb to left, which also reached the second deck, for an 8-2 advantage.

NOTES: Injured third baseman Chase Headley, who went 1-for-3 in a rehab assignment at Class-A Lake Elsinore, was presented with his 2012 Silver Slugger, Gold Glove and GIBBY awards before the game. ... Former Padres catcher Benito Santiago threw out the first pitch.
