We knew that Rihanna was going to be the star of the 2016 MTV VMAs when it was announced that she would receive the Video Vanguard Award and take the stage, but little did we know, RiRi opened the show with some of her classic hits.

The 28-year-old pop star set the bar high for every other VMAs performer with an epic medley of "Don't Stop the Music," "Only Girl (In The World)," "We Found Love," and "Where Have You Been." The Barbados beauty slayed in a white Hood by Air tee with red lettering, a belted white mini, and thigh-high boots, and a grey glove on her right hand, perhaps a nod to former Vanguard winner Michael Jackson.

Rihanna accessorized with a fierce high ponytail, classic red lip, and a pair of red glasses that she took off in the middle of her performance. RiRi slayed her way through four of her chart-topping hits, showing off her incredible dance moves and proving why she will be receiving a lifetime achievement award tonight.

Honestly, we would be fulfilled if that was the only time Rihanna was blessing the 2016 VMAs stage, but luckily, the star will be putting on four different performances throughout the award show.
