Richmond 73, Xavier 71

RICHMOND, Va. -- Junior guard Cedrick Lindsay scored seven of his 12 points in the final 4:14, helping Richmond hang on for a 73-71 victory over Xavier in an Atlantic 10 Conference game Saturday at Robins Center.

Sophomore guard Kendall Anthony came off the bench to score 16 points, leading five players who scored in double figures for Richmond (13-9, 3-4 Atlantic 10).

Freshman forward Alonzo Nelson-Ododa had 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Senior forward Greg Robbins contributed 10 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Senior forward Travis Taylor had 22 points and eight rebounds for Xavier (12-8, 5-2). Freshman guard Semaj Christon scored 15 points.

Richmond led 20-9 midway through the first half, but Xavier rallied to take a 30-28 lead with 2:08 remaining. The Spiders regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Nelson-Ododa and held a 35-34 advantage at the break.

The teams continued to trade leads in the second half. The Spiders went up 64-59 when Lindsay converted a 3-point play with 2:45 to go. The Musketeers had a chance to regain the lead, but Christon missed three of four free throws in the final 1:30.
