Richmond 70, Northeastern 66

The Richmond Spiders finally got hot from long range and held off a furious charge from Northeastern to earn a 70-66 victory in Boston.

The Spiders led by as 13, but the Huskies tied it at 64 with 2:07 to play on two free throws by guard Marco Benegas-Flores. A pair of baskets by Richmond guard Cedric Lindsay pushed the margin to 68-64, and after a Benegas-Flores layup, forward Terry Allen was fouled with 15 seconds left. The Spiders went 2-for-4 from the line in the final seconds to secure the win.

Lindsay led the Spiders (10-4) with 18 points. Guard Kendall Anthony finished with 15 points, and forward Derrick Williams added 12.

Northeastern dropped to 3-10 and has lost eight of its last nine games. The Huskies were led by forward Scott Eatherton's 22 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Demetrius Pollard finished with 19.

Richmond entered the day shooting just 28.2 percent from 3-point range, but went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc in the first half to take a 40-28 lead into the break. The Spiders finished 9-16 from 3-point range on the day.

This was the first game in a four-game road trip for the Spiders. Richmond will travel to No. 12 Florida, St. Bonaventure and Fordham in January before finally playing its first home game of 2014 on Jan. 18 against Dayton.
