RHP Jimenez signs four-year deal with Orioles

The SportsXchange

The Baltimore Orioles finalized a four-year, $50 million contract with right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Jimenez has an 82-75 career record with a 3.92 ERA in 212 career games, including 211 starts, with the Colorado Rockies and the Cleveland Indians. The deal became official after Jimenez passed a physical.

Last season with the Indians, Jimenez went 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 182 2/3 innings. He finished strong, winning American League Pitcher of the Month for September after posting a 4-0 record with a 1.09 ERA in his final six starts. He ranked among the AL's top 10 in strikeouts per nine innings (9.56), road ERA (2.95), strikeouts (194) and ERA during the 2013 season.

With the Rockies, Jimenez was the National League's starting pitcher in the 2010 All-Star Game and finished third in the NL Cy Young Award voting that season after posting a 19-8 record with a 2.88 ERA. Jimenez was traded to the Indians in July 2011 in exchange for four players.

To clear space on the 40-man roster for Jimenez, the Orioles designed right-hander Liam Hendriks for assignment.
