The cuts continue in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are releasing veteran DE Aaron Smith, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora first reported. The news comes one day after the team announced it was parting ways with WR Hines Ward.
Smith played in 15 games combined over the last three seasons because of injury. Smith injured his foot in Week Four of the 2011 season and was later placed on injured reserve.
From 2000-08, Smith missed only five games, starting all 16 games in six seasons in that span. He has 408 tackles and 44 sacks in his career.
The 35-year-old was reportedly due $2.1 million in 2012. The Steelers have restructured contracts of multiple players as they try to free up salary cap space to hold on to restricted free-agent WR Mike Wallace.
