Fantasy Football 2014:

Reports: Kelly will remain at Oregon

The SportsXchange

Chip Kelly briefly jumped on the NFL coaching carousel, but he jumped off before accepting to a new job.

Multiple media outlets reported Sunday night that Kelly will remain the coach at the University of Oregon, spurning opportunities to coach in the NFL.

Kelly met with Cleveland Browns officials for seven hours Friday, then spent nine hours nine hours Saturday talking with the Philadelphia Eagles brass, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. However, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Inquirer and the Oregonian that Kelly decided to return to Eugene.

Earlier Sunday, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner, who met with Kelly in Arizona, returned home to Cleveland to restart their coaching search after ruling out Kelly. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that the Browns didn't get the full commitment they sought from Kelly, prompting them to begin looking elsewhere.

Kelly also interviewed this week with the Bills, but Buffalo reportedly reached a deal Sunday with Syracuse coach Doug Marrone to replace Chan Gailey.

Nike co-founder Phil Knight, a strong and deep-pocketed Oregon booster, was working hard to keep Kelly at Oregon, according to NFL.com.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers also have coaching vacancies.

Kelly explored job possibilities at a time when Oregon is the subject of an NCAA investigation regarding possible recruiting violations. In four seasons with the Ducks, Kelly has posted a 46-7 record, leading the team to a BCS bowl game each year. The Ducks capped an 12-1 season Thursday with a 35-17 rout of Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl.
