Dodgers' Ethier signs five-year extension

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Tuesday that they have signed outfielder Andre Ethier to a five-year contract extension that will run through 2017.

The five-year deal is worth $85 million, according to multiple media reports, and the extension includes a $17.5 million vesting option for 2018.

In November, center fielder Matt Kemp signed an eight-year, $160 million deal that ties him to the Dodgers through 2019.

"I've said it before, but this is the place I've wanted to be all along and I hope to finish my career in Los Angeles playing for these fans that I have developed such a special bond with," said Ethier, 30, in a statement released by the club. "Now we just have to go out and finish our goal of winning a World Championship for this great city."

Outside of Kemp's contract, only Kevin Brown's $105 million, seven-year deal signed in 1998 was more valuable than Ethier's extension in Dodgers history.

Ethier is batting .287 with a .348 on-base percentage, a .509 slugging percentage, 10 homers and 53 RBI through 61 games this season. He's a two-time All-Star, and he won his first Gold Glove last year.
