Reports: Baylor's Briles lands long-term extension

The SportsXchange

Football coach Art Briles agreed to a long-term extension with Baylor, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Briles was viewed as a possible candidate for Arkansas, which filled its coaching vacancy Tuesday by hiring Wisconsin's Bret Bielema.

The Bears (7-5) routed then-No. 1 Kansas State 52-24 on Nov. 17, sparking a three-game, season-ending winning streak. Baylor is headed to the Holiday Bowl for a matchup with UCLA.

"You know I'm not looking to go anywhere; out recruiting and getting ready for UCLA," Briles said on Waco's 1660-AM, according to the Dallas Morning News. "End of story."

Baylor's run of three consecutive bowl appearances will be a school record. The school has won seven-plus games in three consecutive seasons for the first time since 1937-39.

Briles received another contract extension after the 2011 season, when the Bears finished 11-3 and defeated Washington 67-56 in the Alamo Bowl. That was Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III's final game with the Bears.
