Report: Warriors lose Lee for rest of playoffs

The SportsXchange

Golden State Warriors forward David Lee has a torn right hip flexor and will be out for the remainder of the NBA playoffs, according to multiple reports Sunday.

Lee suffered the injury during Game 1 of the Warriors' first-round playoff series with the Denver Nuggets on Saturday when he fell to the court after contact with JaVale McGee on a drive to the basket in the fourth quarter.

After undergoing X-rays on Saturday, Lee had an MRI on Sunday that determined the severity of the damage, and reported. The injury originally was diagnosed as a strain.

Lee left the game immediately in considerable pain. He departed with 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting from the field and 14 rebounds in 29 minutes.

Losing Lee is a blow to the Warriors' hopes in the postseason. The 29-year-old is Golden State's second-leading scorer this season at 18.5 points per game and its top rebounder with an 11.2 average. He was named to play in the NBA All-Star Game in February for the second time in his eight-year career.

The Warriors fell to the Nuggets 97-95 in the series opener. Game 2 will be played Tuesday night in Denver.
