Vikings trade Harvin to Seahawks

The SportsXchange

The Minnesota Vikings traded wide receiver Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks, multiple media outlets reported Monday.

ESPN reported that the Vikings will receive a first round pick in next month's draft as part of the deal. The trade is also reportedly contingent on Harvin passing a physical and agreeing to a new contract within the next 48 hours.

The deal cannot be officially completed until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Fox Sports was first to report the trade.

Harvin, 24, had been rumored to be a camp holdout if the Vikings did not offer him a new contract. He requested a trade last summer but that talk died down after he reported to camp. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Wide receiver Golden Tate's spot on Seattle's depth chart will be impacted by the acquisition. He said he did not take the team's move personally.

"The Seahawks are trying to do whatever they think is necessary to put together a Super Bowl quality team," Tate told ESPN. "If this is one of the steps they think works to accomplish that, then that's their choice. I don't think it will impact any of our work habits. We are still going to grind and let the cards play out the way that they will."

Cornerback Richard Sherman welcomed his new teammate via Twitter.

"Welcome to the Team bruh @Percy_Harvin ... Happy to have ya," he wrote.

The versatile Harvin caught 62 passes for 677 yards, carried the ball 22 times and had a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Minnesota in just over a half-season in 2012. He sprained his left ankle against the Seahawks on Nov. 4 and missed the rest of the year.
