Report: UFC plans to add women's division
UFC might soon bring down its gender barrier.
A female division is in the works, with Ronda Rousey targeted to be the standard-bearer, UFC president Dana White told SI.com.
Rousey, 25, is the top-ranked woman in mixed martial arts according to multiple publications. A bronze medalist in judo at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Rousey is currently fighting for Strikeforce.
Darin Harvey, Rousey's manager, told SI.com of the UFC proposal: "Nothing is imminent. She's a Strikeforce champion, not a UFC fighter. We still have three fights left for Strikeforce."
According to SI.com, White previously was opposed to adding a women's division to UFC, but he changed his tune due to in large part to Rousey's dominance. Rousey is undefeated in nine MMA bouts, six as a pro.
"It's absolutely going to happen," White said told SI.com about a women's division. "The point is, I'm committed to this."
