Report: Texas interested in Mora

The SportsXchange

The University of Texas is showing interest in UCLA coach Jim Mora in its search to replace Mack Brown.

The two sides have discussed the opening, ESPN reported Thursday.

In two seasons with the Bruins, Mora has an 18-8 record that includes a 10-3 mark in 2013 and a second-place finish in the Pac-12 South Division. He also has been a head coach in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and the Atlanta Falcons.

Brown stepped down at Texas after Monday night's Alamo Bowl loss to Oregon. He guided the program for 16 years and compiled a 158-48 record, but the Longhorns lost at least four games each of the past four seasons since reaching the BCS championship game in 2009.

Texas athletic director Steve Patterson has expressed a desire to have a new coach in place by Jan. 15, when the dead period ends in recruiting and coaches begin their final push toward national signing day in February.

Patterson has refused to discuss candidates for the job, but Texas is reported to have interest in Louisville coach Charlie Strong as well as several others.
