Texans waive TE Daniels, CB McCain

The Houston Texans waived veteran tight end Owen Daniels, saving the team $4.5 million against the salary cap, and cornerback Brice McCain on Tuesday.

Daniels' departure comes one day after he said he would be willing to restructure his contract in order to stay with the team.

Daniels had one year left on a three-year deal worth about $15 million.

Daniels, 31, suffered a fractured fibula in the fourth game last season and was placed on injured reserve Oct. 6. He was unable to return.

Daniels had 24 catches in 2013. Daniels finished ith 385 catches for 4,617 yards and 29 touchdowns in his 100 games with the Texans.

McCain, 27, played in 16 games and started four last season. He had 32 tackles and one interception. In five seasons with the Texans, he had 124 tackles and five interceptions.
