Charlie Strong, who has led University of Louisville to bowl games in each of his three years, reportedly is the front-runner for the University of Tennessee coaching job.
ESPN.com reported Louisville is trying to retain Strong, whose Cardinals are headed to the Sugar Bowl after a 10-2 season in the Big East. Most notably, he was the defensive coordinator at Florida when the Urban Meyer coach the Gators to 2006 and 2008 national championships.
Strong was an assistant coach at three different Southeastern Conference schools and Notre Dame before taking the Louisville job. In his three seasons, the Cardinals are 24-14.
