Report: Talks to resume WednesdayBy The Sports Xchange | The SportsXchange – Tue, Dec 11, 2012 12:34 PM EST
The NHL and NHL Players' Association have scheduled a meeting Wednesday at an undisclosed location, according to an ESPN.com report. The sides will again be joined federal mediators in an attempt to end the months-long dispute, multiple sources told ESPNNewYork.com. This is the second attempt by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services to broker an agreement. Talks collapsed Dec. 6 just as it appeared the sides were heading toward a deal, leading NHL commissioner Gary Bettman to announce that the league's latest offer was off the table. On Monday, the NHL cancelled 16 more days from the scheduled, eliminating games through Dec. 30. The league has already cancelled the New Year's Day Winter Classic and the All-Star Game. Before the league rescinded its offer, the NHL and players seemed to make headway in areas such as transition payments and pension plans. "Different circumstances this week than last," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told ESPNNewYork.com. "I'm not sure it can help, but I guess we will find out."
