Syracuse sophomore Michael Carter-Williams paid a $500 fine to a store after being caught shoplifting on Sunday, Syracuse.com reported.
Carter-Williams was stopped by mall security after carrying merchandise from a Lord & Taylor he had not purchased, according to the report. He signed a form admitting the theft and he paid a $500 fine. As a result, store officials did not contact police about the incident.
Carter-Williams and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim called the incident a "misunderstanding" when asked about it by reporters, according to CollegeBasketballTalk.com.
Carter-Williams is averaging 12.4 points, 10.4 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game this season for No. 4 Syracuse.
