Report: Silver signs contract to be next commissioner

Adam Silver signed a contract to be the next NBA commissioner, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said on Friday, CBSSports.com reported.

An NBA spokesman had no comment on Taylor's remarks.

In October 2012, David Stern announced that he would step down as commissioner on Feb. 1, 2014, after 30 years on the job. At the time of the announcement, it was reported the Board of Governors unanimously voted to negotiate with Silver, the deputy commissioner, to replace Stern.

Taylor was the chairman of the Board of Governors for the NBA from 2008 to 2012. Peter Holt, owner of the San Antonio Spurs, was elected as the new chairman in 2012.

Taylor made the statement regarding Silver while Taylor was announcing that he does not plan to sell the Timberwolves now.

"I see some really positive things, other than this here, that are going to happen to this organization in the future and the NBA," Taylor said Friday, according to CBSSports.com. "I've worked really hard with Adam Silver over the years. He signed his contract today, finally, that he'll be the next commissioner. He just did that today and he called me. I'm excited about that. I know him; I know our future of the NBA."
