Seahawks hire Ireland as draft consultant

The SportsXchange

The Seattle Seahawks hired former Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland as a consultant through the 2014 NFL Draft, the team announced Monday.

Ireland served as Dolphins GM from 2008 until the end of last season. Owner Stephen Ross cleaned house following the team's bullying scandal primarily involving offensive linemen Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin.

Ireland joined the Dolphins following a seven-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys (2001-07), including his last three seasons as the team's vice president of college and pro scouting. He was originally hired by the Cowboys as a national scout.

Prior to joining the Cowboys, Ireland spent four years as an area scout for the Kansas City Chiefs (1997-2000). He got his start in the NFL as an area scout for the NFL Scouting Combine from 1994-96.

Before coming to the NFL, Ireland helped coach special teams at the University of North Texas from 1992-93. He was a four-year starter at Baylor as placekicker from 1988-91, finishing his collegiate career third on the school's all-time scoring list with 213 points.
