Report: Revis negotiating with Bucs

The SportsXchange

The New York Jets have given cornerback Darrelle Revis permission to negotiate a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to an ESPN report.

Revis was expected to take a physical with Tampa Bay on Sunday as the teams continued to negotiate a trade that would include the Jets landing the Bucs' No. 13 overall pick in this week's NFL Draft. The Jets already have the ninth pick in Thursday's first round.

Tampa Bay is reportedly willing to pay Revis around $15 million per season, a figure the Jets haven't approached as he continues to recover from ACL surgery six months ago. He was cleared to run last Monday.

The Bucs finished last in the NFL in pass defense last season, and have already added former San Francisco 49ers safety Dashon Goldson in free agency.

Revis showed up to the start of the voluntary start to the Jets' offseason program last week in order to earn a $1 million workout bonus clause in his contract. He currently is scheduled to enter the final year of his contract and due $3 million in base salary and $3 million in bonuses.
