Report: Rangers give Redden permission to seek trade

The SportsXchange

The New York Rangers have given permission to Wade Redden's agent to talk to other NHL teams to try to arrange a trade, the New York Post's Larry Brooks reported.

Redden, a defenseman, has two years remaining on a six-year, $39 million deal, but he spent the past two seasons in the minors and is not in the Rangers' plans. He will not be invited to the Rangers' camp.

His agent, Don Meehan, told the Post he was given permission by the Rangers to speak to other teams about a possible trade.

The previous collective bargaining agreement allowed the Rangers to keep Redden's $6.5 million cap hit off the books by putting him in the AHL. But the new CBA won't allow that.

Redden, 35, played in 75 games for the Rangers in 2009-2010, when he had two goals and 12 assists.
