The Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies are discussing a trade involving Michael Young, multiple sources told The Dallas Morning News. A source said Texas would have to absorb some of the $16 million owed to Young in 2013. Young must approve any deal, a right he's earned as a 10-5 player (10 years in the majors, at least five with the same team). Young, 36, could see reduced playing time if the Rangers decide to open a spot for Jurickson Profar without trading anyone. If Profar plays second, for example, Ian Kinsler could shift to first base or the outfield, slicing into Young's playing time. He batted .277 with eight homers and 67 RBIs in 651 plate appearances last season, his lowest batting average since his first full season in the big leagues, in 2002. Still, he has compiled six 200-plus seasons, the last one coming in 2011.
