Report: Rangers, Andrus near eight-year deal

Shortstop Elvis Andrus and the Texas Rangers are closing in on an eight-year contract, FoxSports.com reported Sunday. According to the report, a source said the deal might be worth $120 million, while another source said the amount was uncertain.

Andrus, 24, is starting the second year of a three-year, $14.4 million deal. He'll make $4.8 million this year and $6,475,000 next year.

Through his first four major league seasons, Andrus has seen his batting average and on-base percentage rise each year. In 2012, he batted .286 with a .349 OBP and a .378 slugging percentage with three homers, 62 RBI and 21 stolen bases. He earned his second All-Star Game appearances.

Andrus went 0-for-4 Sunday in the Rangers' 8-2, season-opening loss to the Astros.
