Report: Rangers agree to deal with Hanson

The Texas Rangers agreed to a minor-league contract with free-agent right-hander Tommy Hanson on Monday, according to ESPN Dallas.

The deal, which includes a spring training invitation, is pending a physical.

Hanson will likely compete for the No. 5 spot in the Rangers' rotation. The Rangers need pitching depth as starter Derek Holland will probably miss the first half of the season while recovering from knee surgery.

Hanson, 27, struggled in recently years. He has a combined 4.76 ERA over the past two seasons in 247 2/3 innings pitched with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels.

Before that, Hanson had a 3.28 ERA from 2009-11 with 431 strikeouts and 148 walks with the Braves.

For his career, Hanson is 49-35 with a 3.80 ERA.
