Report: Raiders hire Olson as OC

The SportsXchange

The Oakland Raiders hired Greg Olson as their offensive coordinator, the Bay Area News Group reported Friday night.

Olson was the assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012. He replaces Greg Knapp, who was reportedly hired by the Denver Broncos on Friday.

Olson has six years of experience as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, including a three-year stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11.

He has 26 years of coaching experience in all: 15 in college and 11 in the NFL.

His power-blocking philosophy should suit running back Darren McFadden. The Raiders used a zone-blocking scheme under Knapp and former offensive line coach Frank Pollack. Both were recently fired by the Raiders. McFadden averaged just 3.3 yards per carry in 2012.

Head coach Dennis Allen reportedly interviewed several candidates before deciding on Olson.
