Report: Penn a candidate for 76ers' GM opening

Tom Penn, at one time the Portland Trail Blazers vice president for basketball operations, is a candidate for the Philadelphia 76ers' general manager position, CBSSports.com reported Sunday.

Penn interviewed for the 76ers' position recently, and would work under team president Rod Thorn if he's hired.

Penn has expertise in the NBA salary cap and the fine points of the collective bargaining agreement.

Penn has worked as an ESPN analyst since being let go by the Blazers two years ago.
