Although Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang has a year left on his contract, the team offered him an eight-year deal worth "around $54 million," the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Thursday. The Letang camp turned down the offer, according to a Tweet by ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, who added that Letang countered with a proposal for a long-term deal that would pay him between $7.5 million and $8 million per year. The Penguins apparently think that's too much. Letang, 26, currently has a four-year, $14 million contract that expires after the upcoming season. Letang had 38 points (five goals, 35 assists) in 35 games during the regular season, and he added 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 15 playoff games.
