Report: Pelfrey to sign with Twins
The Minnesota Twins have reached agreement on a one-year, $4 million contract with pitcher Mike Pelfrey.
The deal, which will be finalized when Pelfrey passes a physical, includes $1.5 million in performances bonuses, ESPN.com and CBSSports.com reported. Pelfrey made $5.7 million this past season with the New York Mets.
The right-hander was limited to three starts last season for the New York Mets. He underwent Tommy John surgery on May 1 and was sidelined the rest of the year.
Pelfrey plans to be ready for spring training.
"I'm on track for Jan. 15, so everything is going well," Pelfrey said, according to ESPN.com. "Tim Hudson came back in seven months (from the same surgery). Joba Chamberlain last year came back in eight before he broke his ankle. And I'll be about eight and a half or so."
In seven seasons with the Mets, the 28-year-old Pelfrey posted a 50-54 record with a 4.36 ERA in 149 starts and 153 appearances, including a mark of 15-9 in 2010 and 7-13 in 2011.
