Report: Panthers sign CB Florence

The SportsXchange

The Panthers added a veteran to a young, untested corps of cornerbacks Wednesday, signing Drayton Florence to a one-year deal.

Florence becomes just the fourth cornerback on the roster, joining 2012 fifth-round pick Josh Norman, former Oregon State cornerback James Dockery and third-year pro Josh Thomas. Thomas was a fifth-round pick in 2011 and also played for the Dallas Cowboys.

Florence, 32, started three of the eight games he played in his only season with the Lions in 2012. He suffered a broken arm Week 2 at San Francisco and returned Week 11 for the Nov. 18 game against Green Bay.

Florence has 18 interceptions and 99 career starts since 2003, when he entered the league with the San Diego Chargers. He has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.
