Jordan Hall, Ohio State's first-string running back, is expected to miss at least the first two games of the 2012 season because of a foot injury, ESPN.com reported.
The Buckeyes will consider using a medical redshirt for Hall if necessary, according to the report.
Hall, a senior, is the No. 1 running back on Ohio State's depth chart and rushed for 408 yards last year. But he had surgery on Friday for a cut on the bottom of his right foot.
Junior Carlos Hyde, sophomore Rod Smith and true freshman Bri'onte Dunn are among the option at running back for coach Urban Meyer.
