Report: NFL looks to alter offseasn calendar

The NFL's marquee offseason events might be pushed back in future years.

According to ESPN.com, the league is considering changes to its spring calendar.

The NFL Scouting Combine would move from late February to early March, the start of free agency would move from mid-March to early April, and the NFL Draft would move from late April to early May, sources told the website.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the plans were discussed, not for the first time, Thursday night at the Combine in Indianapolis.

The changes would need approval from the National Football League Players Association.

The ESPN report also indicated that the league plans to have all teams start summer training camp on the same day, turning it into a national event.

This year, NFL free agency is due to begin March 12, and the draft is scheduled for April 25-27.
