Report: NBA stars to miss Olympics after LondonBy The Sports Xchange | The SportsXchange – Wed, Jun 20, 2012 12:10 PM EDT
The NBA is proposing to FIBA international basketball a World Cup of Basketball that would curb participation of NBA superstars in Olympic competition. Yahoo Sports reported that David Stern is currently deliberating the next move. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is against the partnership with FIBA and told Yahoo he wants the NBA to own, operate and control profits from a global tournament of stars from multiple leagues. The NBA has aggressively marketed players and teams internationally for several years. Summer Olympics participation would likely be limited to players 23-and-under, including a combination of pro and college athletes.
