Report: Mets considering dealing Dickey
While New York Mets starter and National League Cy Young Award finalist R.A. Dickey expressed optimism regarding his discussions on a contract extension, the team may be gauging trade interest, according to multiple reports.
Dickey, 38, went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA last season, and struck out 230 batters. The Mets picked up his 2013 option for $5 million, and are discussing a long-term deal.
At this week's general managers' meetings, the Mets are floating the notion that there is a "substantial gap" between the team and Dickey, according to a New York Post story.
"The Mets are hesitant to pay a 38-year-old knuckleballer at the top of the market," Post reporter Joel Sherman told WFAN Thursday.
A day earlier, Dickey told the New York Daily News: "We just really started talking about it and I'm hopeful," Dickey said. "I love being a Met. I want to be a Met and hopefully we can work something out."
