Report: LSU down to 2 QBs after reserve Jared Foster injures foot

Citing a source "close to the player," the Baton Rouge Advocate reported Friday that LSU third-string quarterback Jared Foster will have foot surgery Monday to repair a left foot fracture, potentially costing him the remainder of the 2014 season.

There's a chance Foster's injury might impact the Tiger baseball team more than LSU's football team; a rising senior outfielder, Foster originally walked on to Les Miles' football team as a freshman before dropping the sport to focus on baseball the previous three seasons. But with three LSU quarterbacks transferring this offseason, Miles persuaded Foster to rejoin the football team over the summer.

If Foster is indeed out for the season, though, it will place Miles in a precarious position when it comes to his quarterbacks. After the transfers of Stephen Rivers (to Vanderbilt) Hayden Rettig (to Rutgers) and Rob Bolden (to Eastern Michigan), sophomore starter Anthony Jennings and true freshman Brandon Harris are the only remaining scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.

Foster was believed to be the Tigers' No. 3 quarterback and dressed for the team's season-opening win over Wisconsin. Harris saw action in one series, but is expected to see more of the field against Sam Houston State Saturday.

As long as Jennings and Harris stay healthy, LSU will be fine. If one or the other suffers an injury, though, Miles could have some very tricky decisions to make about his quarterbacking depth chart.
