Long Island University-Brooklyn forward Julian Boyd, who was the Northeast Conference player of the year last season, will be lost for the rest of the season with a torn anterior-cruciate ligament, Blackbirds Hoops Journal reported.
Boyd suffered the injury while diving for a loose ball in LIU's 97-70 win at Rice on Wednesday night. The Blackbirds are 5-4.
Boyd was one of four Blackbirds players suspended for the first two conference games because of their involvement in an on-campus brawl.
Boyd was averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds in his eight games this season. He hopes to be eligible to receive a medical hardship waiver to gain another year of eligibility.
