Sacramento hopes a man who knows a lot about fitness can pump up the team's bid to retain the Kings.

According to the Sacramento Bee, 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov met Monday in California's capital city with businesspeople he hopes will join him in a bid to buy the Kings and keep them in Sacramento.

Mastrov and Ron Burkle, a supermarket mogul and part owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, would like to purchase the team and move it to a planned downtown Sacramento arena, the Bee reported. Mastrov made an unsuccessful bid to buy the Golden State Warriors in 2010.

Burkle met with NBA commissioner David Stern for approximately two hours last Thursday to discuss the Kings' future.

The Kings' owners, the Maloof family, recently agreed to sell the team to a Seattle-based group that would move the club to the Northwest.

Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson hopes to attract 20 local investors who will pledge $1 million toward purchasing the team, the newspaper reported.

The issue figures to be decided one way or another when the NBA Board of Governors meets April 18.
