K-State guard headed to Miami

The SportsXchange

Miami appears to have a replacement for departed guard Shane Larkin who would brings plenty of experience to the court.

Angel Rodriguez will transfer to Miami from Kansas State for his final two years of college basketball. He announced he was transferring after visiting the school Wednesday.

"Angel is an exceptional point guard," Miami coach Jim Larranaga told the Miami Herald. "When you watch him you immediately notice his ball-handling and passing skills. He can also hit the open shot ... He has a pass-first mentality, but if he sees an open lane, he won't hesitate to attack. We feel very, very good about Angel joining our program."

The 5-foot-11 guard is hoping to attain a hardship waiver to play immediately because of health issues with his family, reported. Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico, wants to be closer to his roots. He played high-school basketball in the Miami area.

Larkin declared his intentions last week to enter the NBA Draft, which will leave the 2013 ACC champions without their top six scorers heading into next season.

At Kansas State last season, Rodriguez averaged 11.4 points and 5-2 assists per game.
