World-renowned rap artist and Brooklyn Nets minority owner Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter has begun the process of selling his shares of the team in order become an NBA agent, Yahoo! Sports reported on Tuesday.

Carter, who recently began his own sports agency called Roc Nation Sports, is required to give up his partial ownership of the Nets in order to expand his angency to the NBA. He owns just one-fiftheeth of one percent of the team but played a key part in the team's move from New Jersey to Brooklyn.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the process is expected to be completed in time for the June NBA draft, allowing Roc Nation to compete for players who will be entering the NBA.

Roc Nation recently partnered with Creative Artist Agency (CAA) and signed New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano as its first client. Cano will be a free agent at the end of the 2013 season and will be seeking a massive long-term deal. It's possible that the Yankees will re-sign Cano before the end of the year.
