Javier Aquino, Juan Carlos Valenzuela and Francisco “Maza” Rodriguez will not be at the World Cup, while Carlos Salcido, Marco Fabian and Hugo Ayala will, according to Azteca Deportes, which released the 23 names it says Mexico coach Miguel Herrera will officially announce to go to Brazil this Friday.
There are no major surprises in Mexico’s World Cup squad, with Guillermo Ochoa, Andres Guardado and Giovani Dos Santos all appearing, but three America players and El Tri regulars – Moises Munoz, Rodriguez and Valenzuela – were left off, as well as in-form Toluca left back Miguel Ponce and Villarreal’s Aquino.
Azteca Deportes is a well-known media outlet in Mexico and part of TV Azteca – one of Mexico’s two biggest television companies.
Herrera stated on his own social media pages on Monday that it wouldn’t be until Friday that he names his definitive squad.
