Report: Heralded freshman Anderson cleared to play for UCLA

With UCLA just over a week away from its season opener, the Bruins received some good news Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the NCAA has declared freshman Kyle Anderson eligible to play this season, according to information received by his family members.

Anderson's amateur standing was in question because of his ties to NBA agent Thad Foucher. The family insisted that Foucher and Anderson's father, Kyle Sr., were acquainted before Anderson became a highly sought recruit, the Times report indicated.

Anderson, a 6-foot-9 guard, is part of a heralded freshman class that includes Shabazz Muhammad, whose eligibility is being investigated by the NCAA because of financial dealings that might have compromised his amateur status.

Muhammad is practicing with the team but injured a shoulder last week.

The Bruins open their season Nov. 9 against Indiana State.
