Report: Griffin playing through elbow injury

The SportsXchange

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin reportedly has a ruptured bursa sac in his right elbow, but the ailment won't keep him out of action.

According to the Orange County Register, Griffin said the problem has occurred in the past, but "never this bad."

Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro told ESPNLosAngeles.com that Griffin also is battling through a neck strain. The website reported that Griffin participated in only half of Tuesday's practice in advance of Wednesday's home game against the San Antonio Spurs.

"His elbow is a concern," Del Negro said, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com. "His neck is a concern, but Blake is a tough kid. He'll fight through it and give us what he can give us."

Griffin, who has been playing with his right elbow heavily wrapped, is averaging 16.3 points and 8.0 rebounds through the season's first four games. His career averages are 21.6 points and 11.4 rebounds.

"There's a little bit more swelling," Del Negro said of the elbow, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com. "He's had that for a long time, but this time it seems to be a little more than normal. It affects everything when you have a bunch of fluid in your elbow."

Griffin, 23, missed out on playing for in the Olympics this summer when he hurt his left knee during Team USA's training camp in July. He wound up undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus.
