Report: Giants' offer to Cruz worth more than $7 million per year

National Football Post

There is optimism in New York that the Giants will come up with a way to secure Victor Cruz for the long haul.

Gary Myers of the New York Daily News reports the team has already made an offer to Cruz that averages more than $7 million per season. Right now, the Giants have Cruz tendered as a restricted free agent at $2.879 million and there has been speculation another club could sign him to an offer sheet and hope to lure him away with compensation of a first-round draft pick.

The reality is RFA movement is quite rare in the NFL and some agents go as far to say teams have an unwritten rule against doing it. The Giants, obviously, would have the right to match any offer sheet Cruz got.

But Myers believes with Cruz now aligning himself with powerful agent Tom Condon that a deal could be brokered that would allow the 26-year-old playmaker to get back into the market for another contract before he is out of his prime.
