Report: Gentry meeting with Cavs

The SportsXchange

The Cleveland Cavaliers are spending their second day interviewing Los Angeles Clippers assistant Alvin Gentry for their head coaching vacancy, the Associated Press reported Friday.

Gentry, 59, is the third known candidate to interview for the job. The Cavaliers also met with Chicago Bulls assistant Adrian Griffin on Tuesday and Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue on Thursday.

Unlike Gentry, Griffin and Lue lack NBA head-coaching experience.

The Cavaliers also plan to meet with a fourth candidate, former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, on Saturday.

Gentry has a 335-370 record as coach of the Miami Heat, Clippers, Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns. Gentry guided the Suns to the Western Conference finals in 2010.

Gentry worked with new Cavaliers general manager David Griffin when they were both employed by the Suns.

Gentry is also reportedly a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers job.

The Cavaliers fired Mike Brown after the team finished 33-49 and missed the playoffs.
