Report: Francona scheduled to interview for Indians' managerial job

The SportsXchange

Former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona may be a candidate for the Cleveland Indians managerial job.

Francona is tentatively scheduled to formally interview for the job on Friday, MLB.com reported Monday, based on unnamed sources.

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said nothing was finalized regarding interviews, but added that no interviews would take place until after the regular season.

Francona is currently an analyst for ESPN. He served as manager of the Red Sox from 2004 to 2011 and the Phillies from 1997-2000.

He worked in Cleveland's front office in 2001 and is friends with Indians president Mark Shapiro and Antonetti.

Interim manager Sandy Alomar Jr. and Francona are the only two names that have been mentioned publicly as possible candidates for the job, which became available when Manny Acta was fired last week.
