Report: Former Titans OC Loggains joins Browns' staff

The SportsXchange

The Cleveland Browns are set to hire former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, NFL.com reported Thursday.

It is uncertain whether Loggains will become the quarterbacks coach or the offensive coordinator with the Browns.

Cleveland's coordinator position remains unfilled and it is possible that Loggains will land that job. But the Browns have spoken with former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo about the coordinator position, according to the report.

However, there were indications that Shanahan might be out of the running for the coordinator job on new coach Mike Pettine's staff.

The 33-year-old Loggains met the Browns on Thursday, ESPN reported. He served as the Titans' quarterbacks coach from 2010 to 2012 and as offensive coordinator for 21 games in 2012 and 2013 before coach Mike Munchak and his staff were ousted after last season.

The Browns were interested in hiring former Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak, who went instead to the Baltimore Ravens, and wanted to speak with Dallas Cowboys assistant Bill Callahan, but the Cowboys will not release him from his contract.

Norv Turner was the Browns' offensive coordinator last year but left for the same job with the Minnesota Vikings after Cleveland dismissed coach Rod Chudzinski, who went 4-12 in his only season.
